“Her smile just made me melt. It made me see how selfish I was. It made me think: I’m never gonna be that blind again. ”
Gaining Respect
“There is definitely a difference between men and women in how they get accepted. In the past, it was a lot harder for women, maybe because men didn’t realize that women can do it.
My biggest advice for women who want to surf big waves or who want to get to the next level is to really find your weaknesses, sharpen them up and get out there as often as you can to really strengthen yourself and kind of prove yourself as you do it. ”
Big wave surf training
“It’s not just surfing and going to the gym and getting ready for surfing. Throughout the year I’m exposing myself to a lot of different ocean conditions. My training is my life-style.”
Training styles
Surfing | Windsurfing | S.U.P.
Open ocean paddling | 1 man canoe | 6 man canoe

Surfspot analysis
“Just watch for a while. you’ll learn a lot, wait for the set to come. once you see one set coming, that gives you a lot of information.
At least one set of the day you got to watch before you go out.”
Big Wave Leashes
“You don’t want a leash that breaks on you out there.
If you lose your board at Jaws it goes through the rocks, so that’s a lot of money lost in the rocks. ”
“First, you think of where you gonna use that gun: a wave at Jaws is a different board than a wave at Mavericks.”
Wipe-out survival
“To be really honest? I think of Jiu-Jitsu! I actually put myself in a Jiu-Jitsu match. I’m in a Jiu-Jitsu match with a blackbelt, 500 pounds bigger than me and I have to find my way out there.”
Surf Rescue First Aid kit
“Don’t get out of your mind with equipment that you might not have the qualifications to do it.”
